Bach's 48 Preludes and Fugues need no introduction; they are not only the most famous pedagogical msuical work every written but also great music. Jill's complete recording is released this year on Signum Classics.

Schumann's Scenes from Childhood are one of the most famous evocations of childhood in music; but they are deceptive pieces, written from an adult's point of view and as much nostalgic as directly descrptive. The Arabeske was written during Schumann's difficult courtship of Clara and is a thank-you to a couple that helped them with their relationship.

Debussy 's Arbesques are early, accessible pieces and among his most popular.

Chopin's first scherzo was written in Vienna; the composer was homesick and based one part on a Polish Christmas carol.
